Port of Montreal's container throughput increased in TEUs, despite a drop in overall cargo tonnage, according to PortNews from Saint Petersburg.
Container throughput at the Port of Montreal rose in TEU terms last year, even as overall cargo tonnage slipped, reported Saint Petersburg's PortNews.
Official figures showed that total cargo tonnage fell to 12.3 million tonnes in 2025 from 12.6 million a year earlier, marking a 2.24 percent decline.
Inbound cargo edged up by 0.51 percent to 6.6 million tonnes, while outbound shipments dropped by 5.23 percent to 5.7 million tonnes, resulting in an overall shortfall of 281,361 tonnes.
Container throughput, measured in TEUs, climbed by 3.62 percent to 1,517,348 units from 1,464,320. Inbound boxes rose by 1.29 percent to 749,074, while outbound flows surged by 6.00 percent to 768,274.
The Port of Montreal manages harbor infrastructure along the St. Lawrence River, overseeing container terminals, logistics zones, and marine services that link central Canada with Atlantic and inland North American trade.
