The wreckage of a K2 Airways Boeing 737-400 freighter has been found off Karachi after a 12-hour search, with five crew members still missing.
The wreckage of a K2 Airways Boeing 737-400 freighter that vanished over the Arabian Sea has been located after a 12-hour search, reported London's Air Cargo News.
Pakistan Airports Authority stated that the aircraft was discovered off Karachi, approximately 98km south of Ormara. Rescue teams are currently working to locate the five missing crew members.
The jet had departed Sharjah on 7 July and lost contact at 21:21 local time. Civil aviation officials indicated that the crew reported navigational problems just minutes earlier, before radar showed the aircraft descending rapidly with a sharp heading change.
K2 Airways confirmed that the freighter was carrying two pilots, two engineers, and a loadmaster. Public flight-tracking data revealed that the aircraft was cruising at 35,000ft when it deviated from its course and lost altitude over the sea.
The missing twinjet, registered as AP-BOI, was built in 1999 and previously flew with Aeroflot and Garuda Indonesia before its conversion to cargo. The airline has not disclosed any details regarding the cargo load.
K2 Airways, founded in 2018, stated that its first aircraft arrived in Karachi in July 2024. The company is still awaiting news on the fate of its crew.
