Maersk has implemented a Heavy Load Surcharge on its X4FS service from China to South America, effective May 29, according to Container Management.
Maersk has announced a Heavy Load Surcharge on its X4FS service from four Chinese ports to South America, effective May 29, reports London's Container Management.
The surcharge applies to 20-foot dry containers with a verified gross mass above 20 tonnes and 40-foot non-operating reefer units exceeding 23 tonnes. It covers shipments from Shanghai, Qingdao, Xingang, and Dalian to Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay.
For Brazilian ports Santos, Itapoa, Itajai, and Paranagua, as well as Montevideo in Uruguay, the surcharge is set at US$400 per unit for both categories. Buenos Aires carries the same $400 rate for 20-foot dry units above 20 tonnes, but a lower $200 rate for 40-foot NOR equipment, with a higher weight threshold of 25 metric tonnes.
The differentiated rate for Argentina's gateway port marks the only departure from an otherwise uniform tariff across South American destinations covered by the service.
