The 90-meter-long dry cargo ship NS SPIRIT, which had a machinery malfunction off the coast of Darıca while exiting the Gulf of Izmit, was safely anchored at Eskihisar Iron Field with the operation carried out under the coordination of Izmit Ship Traffic Services Center.
On September 25, 2026, a machinery malfunction occurred on the dry cargo ship named NS SPIRIT, which was sailing out of the Gulf of Izmit, for an unknown reason. Coordination was provided by Izmit Ship Traffic Services Center to ensure the safety of the ship, whose navigational ability was affected due to the malfunction.
Following the incident, the ŞARK Tugboat affiliated with the General Directorate of Coastal Safety was directed to the region. In the operation carried out under the coordination of ship traffic services, NS SPIRIT was towed by the tugboat and towed to Eskihisar Anchorage in a controlled manner.
The 90-meter-long dry cargo ship was safely taken to its anchorage after the intervention. It was reported that the operation was completed without any problems and the ship was delivered to the safe zone without posing any risk.
Izmit Bay stands out as one of the critical sea areas where Vessel Traffic Services and Coastal Safety teams intervene quickly in emergencies such as machinery failure due to heavy commercial ship traffic.
