Containers lost from the 'Maersk Shanghai' contained nearly 2,700 kilograms of sulfuric acid, a chemical commonly used to produce fertilizer

Containers lost from the 'Maersk Shanghai' contained nearly 2,700 kilograms of sulfuric acid, a chemical commonly used to produce fertilizer. The environmental threat appeared minimal because sulfuric acid dissolves in saltwater. The ship has anchored off Charleston, South Carolina, on March 6 at 8 a.m. where officials were assessing the situation. The Coast Guard has found four of the containers floating offshore. It wasn't immediately reported what other containers held. Report with photos: nationalpost.com/...
