After several failed attempts to refloat the 'Ocean Wanderer' which took place since Sep 22, the longliner could be refloated from the reef at La Foa on Sep 27 in less than three hours due to a suitable tide and a repositioning of the salvage tug 'Emile Viratelle'. Salvors started operations at 6.30 a.m., and at 9 a.m., about 15 minutes before high tide, the ship was pulled off and towed from the lagoon to the dock in Nouméa to undergoes checks of its state. Divers ensured that there was no water ingress. In recent days, the longliner had undergone several phases of depollution. 240 liters of oil from the ship's hydraulic installations had been salvaged with a helicopter. Part of the diesel was also extracted. No signs of pollution have so far been detected.
