Namsung Shipping and Dongyoung Shipping order four new containerships from CSSC's Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding in Guangzhou.
South Korea's Namsung Shipping and Dongyoung Shipping have placed orders for four containerships at CSSC's Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding in Guangzhou, reported Singapore's Splash 247.
The deal, arranged with China Shipbuilding Trading Co, covers two 4,300 TEU vessels designed by the Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute for ocean-going service, and two 1,900 TEU feeder ships built to Huangpu Wenchong's Honghu design.
The larger ships will carry general containers, reefers, and dangerous goods within limits, and meet Tier III emission standards using an HPSCR system. They will also be prepared for conversion to alternative fuels such as methanol, LNG, and ammonia.
The 1,900-TEU feeders will feature lower fuel consumption, high intake, and operational flexibility, making them suitable for short-sea trades across Asia. Huangpu Wenchong stated that the deal strengthens its ties with Korean owners and underlines its role in the small- and mid-size segment.
Namsung Shipping, founded in 1953, was Korea's first private ocean-going line and now operates more than 20 vessels in intra-Asia trades. Dongyoung Shipping, established in 1974, has expanded services from Japan to China, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, and Russia.
