JETTAINER will soon offer pallets containing a high proportion of lightweight squAIR-timber, a material which does not sacrifice load-bearing. The outsourced ULD management specialist, a subsidiary of Lufthansa Cargo, has signed a partnership with German start-up trilatec to use innovative 'paper beams,' reports London's Air Cargo News.
The beams are made of a special cardboard fibre composite material, based on the carbon principle for protecting the environment, and are up to 80 per cent lighter than conventional wooden planks.
One metre of the material with a net weight of only 1.2 kilogrammes carries up to five tons of cargo. The net weight of a traditional wooden plank is three to four kilogrammes per metre.
In addition, squAIR-timber consists of 100 per cent recycled material, is inexpensive and can be disposed of alongside regular paper waste without any problems.
Jettainer announced the partnership at the 35th International Supply Chain Conference in Berlin.
Said Jettainer marketing chief Martin Kraemer: 'Through the partnership with trilatec, we are expanding our portfolio and emphasising that Jettainer integrates innovative solutions into the core area of ULD management as well as into related services and products.'
Said trilatec managing director Andreas Langemann: 'The cooperation on the sales side for our product squAIR-timber offers us ideal access to airlines worldwide. It is a great advantage that addressing potential customers through or together with Jettainer enables us to place our topic with exactly the right contacts within the airlines.'
