India's Directorate General of Shipping celebrates the launch of the fourth Women in Rating Programme batch, empowering women in maritime careers.
The Directorate General of Shipping in Mumbai has recognized TS Rahaman for launching the fourth batch of the Women in Rating Programme, reported Singapore's Maritime Fairtrade.
This initiative, started two years ago in collaboration with major shipping companies, aims to empower young women from rural India to pursue careers at sea. More than 80 women have entered the maritime sector through outreach, training, and industry collaboration.
Scholarships worth INR 7.2 million (US$79,409.73) have been awarded to deserving candidates, helping them pursue opportunities in a traditionally male-dominated field.
The Directorate General of Shipping expressed gratitude to TS Rahaman, shipping companies, unions, and families for their support in promoting gender inclusivity across the maritime industry.
