İMEAK Chamber of Shipping and İskenderun Technical University launch a Bridge Simulator Center to advance maritime education and training.
The Bridge Simulator Center, established within the Faculty of Shipbuilding and Maritime Sciences at Iskenderun Technical University (ISTE) with contributions from the İMEAK Chamber of Shipping, was inaugurated with a ceremony.
The opening of the Simulator Center at the Faculty of Shipbuilding and Maritime Sciences of Iskenderun Technical University was attended by ISTE Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Duruel, İMEAK Chamber of Shipping Board Chairman Tamer Kıran, Iskenderun Deputy Mayor Cihan Akyürekoğlu, Iskenderun Regional Port Authority Chairman Atilla Piralioğlu, İMEAK Chamber of Shipping Iskenderun Branch Chairman Kemal Kutlu, academics, and guests.
The ceremony began with a music performance by faculty members of the Mustafa Yazıcı State Conservatory. In his speech, ISTE Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Duruel stated that the collaboration between universities, industry, and civil society organizations plays a significant role in preparing young people for the future.
Duruel expressed his gratitude to those who contributed to the establishment of the simulator center, which will significantly aid the professional development of students studying at the Faculty of Shipbuilding and Maritime Sciences.
“STUDENTS WILL GAIN EXPERIENCE”
Prof. Dr. Beşir Dandıl, Dean of the Faculty of Shipbuilding and Maritime Sciences, stated that thanks to the simulator center, candidates for marine engineering will be able to gain experience through applications similar to real operations without risking life and property.
KIRAN: “IT WILL STRENGTHEN APPLIED EDUCATION”
İMEAK Chamber of Shipping Board Chairman Tamer Kıran also noted that the Chamber supports educational and social projects in various regions of Turkey.
Emphasizing that the maritime sector needs qualified and trained human resources capable of having a say in the world's seas, Kıran stated that the Bridge Simulator Center is one of the important examples of university-industry collaboration.
Kıran highlighted the importance of strengthening applied education in maritime training and developing students' professional knowledge and skills with contemporary technologies.
He pointed out that the safe navigation of a ship depends not only on advanced systems and technologies but also on the knowledge, experience, and decision-making skills of the engineers who will use these systems. He noted that through bridge simulators, students will gain significant experiences in an environment similar to real ship operations.
PLAQUES FOR CONTRIBUTORS
After the opening ceremony, ISTE Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Duruel presented plaques to İMEAK Chamber of Shipping Board Chairman Tamer Kıran and İMEAK Chamber of Shipping Iskenderun Branch Chairman Kemal Kutlu for their contributions to the establishment of the Simulator Center. The new simulator center aims to help students studying maritime fields at ISTE reinforce their theoretical knowledge with practical training.
