HJ Shipbuilding has secured a KRW357.2 billion order for two 11,000 TEU containerships from a European shipowner, enhancing its eco-friendly fleet.
HJ Shipbuilding & Construction announced that it has secured an order from a European shipowner for two 11,000 TEU containerships worth KRW357.2 billion (US$24 million), reports Seoul's Chosun Biz.
The vessels represent the largest that can be built at the Yeongdo Shipyard in Busan, based on HJ Shipbuilding's self-developed eco-friendly design for ships ranging from 7,700 to 9,000 TEU. The company had previously won an order for two ships in February and has now added two more to its portfolio.
The new ships will be equipped with scrubbers to comply with IMO environmental regulations and will feature an alternative maritime power system, allowing for shore-based electricity supply while berthed, thereby reducing emissions.
With four 11,000 TEU ships now on its order books, HJ Shipbuilding anticipates efficiency gains from repeat builds, which will enhance productivity and profitability. Shipowners also benefit from operating sister ships, as this simplifies management.
The company has also developed an LNG dual-fuel propulsion model based on the same hull form to meet future demand. Chief Executive Yu Sang-cheol stated that the shipyard can now consecutively build four large eco-friendly containerships and will pursue selective orders focused on profitability and timely delivery.
