Hithium Energy Storage Technology is establishing overseas manufacturing hubs and partnerships to enhance its global presence, as reported by Caixin.
Chinese battery maker Hithium Energy Storage Technology is focusing on regional manufacturing hubs and local partnerships to expand abroad, reported Caixin.
Speaking at the Summer Davos forum in Dalian, chairman Wu Zuyu stated that Chinese firms should emulate Japanese, South Korean, German, and US companies that traded technology for market access in China. He emphasized that an overseas layout was essential, as China's vast production capacity could not depend solely on domestic demand.
Xiamen-based Hithium has already begun to build plants overseas. In May 2025, it opened a US$200 million, 10-gigawatt-hour energy storage system facility in Mesquite, Texas, becoming the first Chinese energy storage company to establish a factory in the United States.
The company is also targeting Europe. In March, local media reported that Hithium planned to invest EUR400 million (US$463 million) in a battery plant in Spain, which is scheduled to begin operations in 2027.
