The International Green Maritime Corridor Alliance was officially established during the 2026 Global Sustainable Transport Forum in Beijing. Chinese sources describe the formation as the first non-governmental international organization focusing on international green maritime corridor cooperation.
The founding actors of the alliance, established with the initiative of the Chinese Ministry of Transport, include China International Sustainable Transportation Innovation and Information Center, COSCO Shipping, CMA CGM, China Energy Engineering Group and Shanghai International Port Group.
At the first general assembly, the statute, dues structure and board of directors election procedures were accepted. The alliance started its operations with 45 founding members representing different links of the green shipping value chain from 12 countries.
Study program; It includes harmonizing national rules and international standards for green ships, alternative marine fuels and net zero ports. Additionally, transportation facilitation measures, technical research, technology transfer, capacity development and sample corridor projects are planned.
The success of green corridors does not depend only on new ship orders. Fuel production and supply capacity at ports, reliable certification of fuel life cycle emissions, long-term offtake agreements and mutually recognized safety standards are required. The impact of the alliance will be evaluated by whether it can produce measurable fuel supply and emission reductions in the selected corridors, rather than the number of membership.
