The Turkish-flagged Med Beykoz suffered a mechanical failure in the Dardanelles, halting traffic as it was safely towed to a secure area.
A Turkish-flagged container ship, measuring 202 meters in length, experienced a machinery failure in the Dardanelles Strait and was towed to a safe area with the assistance of tugboats. As a result of the incident, ship traffic in the strait was temporarily halted.
The container ship named 'Med Beykoz' encountered a machinery failure while navigating in the Dardanelles Strait, specifically off the coast of Nara Point during its passage. Following the incident, teams from the General Directorate of Coastal Safety were dispatched to the area for rescue operations.
Intervention after machinery failure
The 202-meter-long ship, Med Beykoz, malfunctioned while sailing from Asyaport towards Izmir. Upon the captain reporting the situation, tugboats and rescue vessels were directed to the region.
Traffic temporarily halted
Due to the malfunction, two-way transit of vessels in the Dardanelles Strait was temporarily suspended for safety reasons. Other ships passing through the strait were also informed about the situation.
Towed to a safe area
With the intervention of the tugboats, the ship was brought under control and taken to the Dark Harbor Anchorage Area. It was stated that maritime traffic in the region would be reorganized in a controlled manner to prevent potential risks.
