Geodis has announced Southeast Asia's first cross-border trucking service powered by renewable diesel, marking a milestone in decarbonising its regional road network, according to a company press release.
The pilot involves a Euro-5 truck travelling from Singapore to the Thailand-Malaysia border using Neste MY Renewable Diesel supplied by Neste, with Interion of Singapore handling fuel distribution.
Renewable diesel, also known as hydrotreated vegetable oil, is produced from 100 per cent renewable raw materials such as used cooking oil and animal fat waste. Geodis said the fuel can cut greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90 per cent compared with conventional diesel and can be used in existing engines without modification.
Conducted with Neste and Interion, the pilot will assess fuel performance, operational feasibility, supply chain reliability and carbon-reduction outcomes. Insights will guide Geodis' wider adoption of renewable fuels across Asia Pacific.
Regional Sustainability Director Esther Cheong said the pilot demonstrates the practical benefits of renewable fuels and sets the groundwork for broader adoption. Neste Vice President Mario Mifsud added that collaborations like this show how renewable fuels can lower the climate impact of road transport in Southeast Asia.
Interion director Peh Khian Hui said the project highlights how cooperation across the value chain can drive sustainable transformation.
Geodis said the initiative aligns with its broader strategy to cut emissions and supports its SBTi-approved climate commitments under the Paris Agreement to limit global temperature rise to 1.5C.
