GEMIMO's 'Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow' movement aims to honor the past while tackling future maritime challenges through strong leadership.
The TMMOB Chamber of Marine Engineering (GEMİMO) has announced the candidacy of the movement 'The Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow of the Chamber' for management ahead of the elections. In the announcement published by the movement, it was emphasized that they respect the past accumulation of the chamber, accurately analyze today's needs, and aim for a strong management understanding for the future.
The candidate team stated that GEMİMO is not only a professional organization but also an important structure representing the technical intellect and institutional memory of Turkish maritime. They expressed their intention to carry this accumulation further.
In the movement's statement, it was noted that the concept of 'change' does not mean a break from the past, and it was recorded that a renewal approach within continuity has been adopted in the chamber management. In this direction, a management model that combines experienced individuals with the dynamism of the younger generation was proposed.
The candidate team pointed out that the maritime profession is sustained not only on ships but also in ports, shipyards, commercial enterprises, insurance, and technical service areas, stating that the management list consists of individuals representing different fields of the profession.

PRIMARY BOARD OF CANDIDATES
Yunus Emre Aşkın
He graduated from the Marine Engineering Department of the Faculty of Maritime Studies at ITU in 2013. After graduation, he served on ships for 9 years. He then continued his career within ILKFER Maritime, rising to the position of Deputy General Manager. He has previously held positions as a reserve and principal board member in GEMİMO. He has also served in various roles such as a member of the TOBB Istanbul Young Entrepreneurs Council and a member of the DEFAV Board of Trustees.
He graduated from the Marine Engineering Department of the Faculty of Maritime Studies at ITU. After graduation, he served for approximately 10 years on long-distance tankers. He later worked as a technical inspector. He is currently serving as Deputy Technical Manager at Akbaşoğlu Holding.
He graduated from the Marine Engineering Department of the Faculty of Maritime Studies at ITU in 2010. After graduation, he worked on ships. He later held various positions in technical sales, brand development, and customer management. After serving in the Turkish structure of Chevron/Texaco, he started his entrepreneurial activities by establishing his own company in 2024.
He graduated from the Marine Engineering Department of the Faculty of Maritime Studies at ITU in 2012. After his maritime service, he worked in technical inspection and agency. He is currently serving as the CEO of Transbosphor Maritime. He is also actively involved in various maritime and entrepreneurial organizations.
Cavit Memişoğlu
He graduated from the Marine Transportation Engineering Department of the Faculty of Maritime Studies at ITU. After his maritime career, he pursued legal education and specialized in maritime law. He is one of the founding partners of Memişoğlu Kurun Law Partnership.
Alev Aktuğ Akpınar
She graduated from the Faculty of Maritime Studies at ITU. She served for 7 years as a long-distance officer and first officer. She later took roles in shipyard and fleet operations. She is currently working in the mega yacht management sector and managing the fleet of large yachts.
He graduated from the Faculty of Maritime Studies at ITU. He served as an officer, first officer, and captain in international tanker companies. After approximately 12 years of maritime service, he continues his career as a marine insurance broker.
RESERVE BOARD OF CANDIDATES
Prof. Dr. Selçuk Nas
He graduated from the Faculty of Maritime Studies at ITU. After his maritime service, he pursued an academic career and is currently serving as a professor at Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Maritime. He conducts studies in the fields of port planning, ship maneuvering, and maritime risk analysis.
Dr. Samet Biçen
He graduated from the Marine Engineering Department of the Faculty of Maritime Studies at ITU. After serving as a long-distance second engineer, he turned to an academic career. He is currently serving as a faculty member at ITU Faculty of Maritime Studies.
Arif Aytaç Çalışkaner
He graduated from the Faculty of Maritime Studies at ITU. He is currently serving as a long-distance chief engineer. He has also worked as a technical inspector and sales manager at various times in his career.
Hasan Burak Açın
He graduated from the Faculty of Maritime Studies at ITU. He served for many years as an officer, first officer, and captain on tanker ships. He later began working as a partner at MBT Ship Services and Agency.
He graduated from the Faculty of Maritime Studies at ITU. After working as a technical inspector, he took on the role of repair and maintenance manager at Çeksan Shipyard.
Batur Alp Özdemir
He graduated from the Faculty of Maritime Studies at ITU. He served for many years as a captain on tanker ships. He later worked as a ship inspector. He is currently serving as the General Manager in the Netherlands for an international company.
Ozancan Gökbayrak
He graduated from Piri Reis University. After working as a machine officer and second engineer on long-distance tankers, he established his own company providing consulting and supervision services.
He graduated from the Marine Engineering Department of Piri Reis University. After serving as an officer on tanker ships, he worked as a technical inspector assistant. He is currently serving as the technical manager at DBO Marine.
