The fire aboard the 'Maersk Honam' was brought under control on March 10, five days after the initial explosions aboard. A thick smoke of poisonous vapors has now been replaced by white smoke, which was a sign of cooling metal on board. However, fire extinguishing can be a long-lasting process due to the extremely high temperatures generated inside the containers, with the risk of fires igniting again. The Indien Coastguard has classified the fire as a chemical one due to the dangerous cargoes carried on board. There was still nothing new about the four missing crew members, even though the ICG believed they were on the ship. Two of the colleagues were still in critical condition.
