The 'World of Sharks' exhibition from New York is now at Lycée Saint-Joseph in Istanbul, running until May 8, 2026.

The 'World of Sharks' exhibition, which has been visited by millions at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, has opened its doors in Istanbul. The exhibition will be accessible until May 8, 2026, at Lycée Saint-Joseph, Istanbul (Istanbul Private Saint-Joseph French High School).

Visitors will experience a unique underwater atmosphere until May 8, 2026. The exhibition, which hosted millions of visitors between December 2021 and September 2023 at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, is now meeting with visitors at Saint-Joseph High School in Istanbul. The exhibition scientifically conveys the evolutionary development, biological diversity, and critical role of sharks, one of the most important species in the marine ecosystem, in the healthy functioning of oceans. Presented in a specially created area within the school, the exhibition offers an experiential narrative that transports visitors underwater and breaks down prejudices about sharks.

Paul Georges: 'Our true teachers are experience and emotion'

Paul Georges, the Principal of Istanbul Saint-Joseph High School, explained the pedagogical value of presenting the exhibition in a school environment. He stated that one of the priorities of the institution's projects is to raise awareness among students and all guests visiting the Nature Sciences Center about the beauty and fragility of the environment and to promote ecological citizenship on their scale.

Emphasizing that Turkey is part of the future, Georges also mentioned that the exhibition references the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. He noted that the 'World of Sharks' exhibition, like the Nature Sciences Center within the school, is an experience that brings science outside the classroom, expressing that the exhibition not only makes scientific knowledge visible but also inspires the development of nature-loving researchers, responsible entrepreneurs, teachers, doctors, and veterinarians.

Ahmet Birsel: 'Protecting sharks means protecting the ecosystem'

Ahmet Birsel, the Coordinator of the Nature Sciences Center and Sustainable Development at Istanbul Saint-Joseph High School, stated that they aim to provide visitors with an underwater experience in the 140 square meter exhibition area and to inform them about the lives of sharks. He emphasized that the exhibition also includes 8-10 different taxidermy specimens, as well as jaws, teeth, and eggs from the Nature Sciences Center collection.

Birsel expressed that the exhibition explains different species of sharks and rays, their ancestors, evolutionary processes, and habitats; it shows the critical role that sharks play in healthy oceans. He conveyed to visitors the importance of protecting sharks for the healthy development of ecosystems, rather than fearing and hunting them. He noted that sharks are at the top of the food chain and are key to a healthy ecosystem, stating that they aim to transform established fears about sharks.
