Istanbul prosecutors reveal details on suspect Çetin Gören's role in the seizure of 10 tons of cocaine off the Canary Islands.
In the investigation conducted in Istanbul regarding the ship from which 10 tons of cocaine were seized off the coast of Spain's Canary Islands, the prosecutor's dispatch has been obtained. In the document submitted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to the peace criminal court, the role of the suspect Çetin Gören, who is alleged to be the leader of the organization, was detailed based on the evidence evaluated within the scope of the investigation.
The prosecutor's letter stated that Gören organized the transportation of the 10 tons of cocaine found on the ship named UNİTED-S by giving instructions to other suspects and that he was considered to hold a leadership position within the criminal organization. In the legal assessment made, it was noted that Gören instructed the establishment of companies for concealment purposes through other individuals and directed the operation and management of the UNİTED-S ship, which belongs to the Honduras-based Copa Maritime Co.
According to the document, other suspects actively participated in the processes of procuring the ship, preparing for the voyage, and transporting the cocaine to the designated location under Gören's instructions. It was also claimed that suspect Mesut Yalçın had connections with other detained Turkish citizens in Spain and took on roles such as providing crew members within the criminal organization.
Within the scope of the investigation, simultaneous operations were carried out by the Istanbul Police Department and in other provinces; 12 suspects were detained, of which 10 were arrested, and judicial control measures were applied to two individuals. The operations were conducted in the provinces of Istanbul, Mersin, Tekirdağ, Kocaeli, Sakarya, and Hatay.
The investigation also included information that 4 of the crew members on the ship were Turkish citizens. The investigation in Istanbul continues to meticulously evaluate the legal and criminal evidence related to the ship and its connections to the criminal organization.
