Container ship owners are placing newbuilding orders at Asian yards, highlighting ongoing fleet renewal efforts, according to London's Container News.

Several container ship owners have placed or are preparing newbuilding orders at Asian yards as fleet renewal continues, reported London's Container News. Zodiac Maritime, Jiangsu Port Group, Sinotrans, and Songa Box are among those committing to fresh tonnage.

Zodiac Maritime has contracted eight scrubber-fitted 6,400 TEU vessels at Hengli Heavy Industry. Two ships are due in 2028, with the remaining six scheduled for 2029.

Jiangsu Port Group, through its subsidiary Zhenghe Haimin (Jiangsu) Container Transportation, has ordered six 4,600 TEU ships from Hengli Shipbuilding. The price is around US$73.8 million each, though delivery dates have not been disclosed.

Sinotrans is preparing a second order for four 1,800 TEU ships at China Merchants Shipbuilding's Qingshan yard. If confirmed, the deal will double its program there to eight vessels. The first four are due in 2028, while details of the second batch remain pending.

Norwegian owner Songa Box has placed a firm order for two 1,300 TEU ships at Guangji New Energy Shipbuilding. Options for four more vessels are included, but pricing and delivery schedules have not been released.

The latest commitments underline continued investment in feeder and regional container vessels, with Chinese yards securing contracts from both domestic and international owners.
