Electric vehicles made in China now account for one in three new registrations in South Korea, reports Hong Kong's South China Morning Post.
Sales of China-built EVs surged to 25,000 units in the first quarter of 2026, marking a remarkable 286.1 percent rise from a year earlier, according to the Korea Automobile and Mobility Association.
Over the same period, South Korean manufacturers sold approximately 51,000 EVs, experiencing a slower growth rate of 126.1 percent.
Market share data revealed that China-made EVs increased from 4.7 percent in 2022 to 33.9 percent last year, while Korean EVs declined from 75 percent to 57.2 percent. Tesla's Shanghai-built models significantly contributed to this surge, alongside the growing traction of various Chinese brands.
