The ship had encountered serious engine problems, possibly a fire. Already after its departure from Hansaport to Ponta de Madeira in the early morning it was berthed at the pilings off Airbus, before trying to resume its voyage, however, in vain. The tugs "Bugsier-2", "Parat", "Bugsier-15", "Corvin", "Bugsier-14", "Taucher Otto Wulf-4", "Bugsier-21" and "Bugsier-5" were called to assist. After the loss of power the anchor and the chain had to let go as it could not be heaved. The ship was towed to the Elbe Harbour where it was berthed for inspections and repairs at 3.30 p.m.
