In H1 2026, the Port of Barcelona handled 1.93 million TEU, marking a 4.3% increase, with significant growth in vehicle imports and total traffic.

The Port of Barcelona handled 1.93 million TEU in the first half of 2026, representing a 4.3 percent increase year-on-year. Imports rose by 6.7 percent to 380,000 TEU, as reported by London's Container Management.

Total port traffic reached 35.87 million tonnes, reflecting a 3.5 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. Vehicle traffic also saw a rise of 6.5 percent, totaling 386,000 units, with imports surging by 36 percent. Notably, 45 percent of these vehicles were hybrid or electric, and China accounted for half of all vehicle imports.

General Manager Alex Garcia stated that these figures demonstrate the port's resilience and adaptability amid a complex global environment.

The port confirmed that radioelectric compatibility studies indicated its planned southern expansion area is compatible with current and future operations at Barcelona-El Prat airport.

Additionally, contracts were awarded for the port's first hydrogen plant and for shore-power infrastructure at the Adossat wharf cruise terminals.
