APM TERMINAL's planned development in the Maasvlakte 2 area of the port recently entered a new phase with the signing of new deals with Navis, part of the Finland's Cargotec organisation to supply cargo handling hardware, and TBA Netherlands which will provide the terminal software.
The 500-metre berthing line for servicing mainly coastal ships and barges and one kilometre berthing line, with depths alongside of 21 metres (17 metres at any state of the tide), for handling mainline tonnage are already in place, with APM T and its contractors now starting on the terminal's infrastructure.
Phase A of the project will have the capacity to handle 2.7 million TEU annually and it will be the most automated container terminal in the world, featuring eight unmanned ship-to-shore gantry cranes along with 26 fully automated rail-mounted stacking cranes and 37 battery-powered lift automated guided vehicles to move containers from the shore to the yard, according to London's Containerisation International.
