US LNG projects drive nearly 7% global supply growth, with strong demand expected from Asia and significant infrastructure developments.

Global LNG supply rose nearly seven percent in late 2025, led by new US projects, reported Fort Lauderdale's Maritime Executive. Louisiana LNG, Corpus Christi Trains 8 & 9, CP2 phase 1, Rio Grande LNG Train 4, and Port Arthur Phase 2 reached final investment decisions, strengthening the US position as the world's largest LNG supplier. Market share is forecast to rise from about 25 percent last year to 33 percent by 2030.

Demand growth is expected in 2026, particularly from Asia, as countries invest in import infrastructure. LNG produces 30 percent less carbon dioxide than heavy fuel oil and almost no sulfur oxides, making it the cleanest fossil fuel option for emissions targets.

ABS noted in its 2025 Sustainability Outlook that clean fuels remain costly and scarce, limiting their economic case. LNG, however, offers lower base costs and a mature supply chain, accounting for over 70 percent of alternative-fuel newbuild orders. Lloyds Register has also advanced LNG adoption, including drydock surveys for P&O Cruises' Iona and Carnival's Mardi Gras.

US bunkering infrastructure is expanding. TOTE Services has completed more than 400 operations with its Clean Jacksonville barge, while Colonial Towing added the Soaring Eagle tug in 2025. Glander International Bunkering appointed Michael Cammarata as managing director, ensuring continuity after Larry Messina's retirement.

Globally, Chevron approved a US$2 billion expansion of Australia's Gorgon LNG project, while Shell advanced drilling at the Crux field. Chevron also sanctioned the expansion of Israel's Leviathan gas field, supporting a US$35 billion export deal with Egypt.

With new projects, expanded infrastructure, and class societies guiding operators, LNG enters 2026 with strong momentum. Delivered capacity, proven technology, and operating experience position LNG as a cornerstone of marine and energy growth through the next decade.
