OYAK Maritime and Port Operations Inc. has made a breakthrough in Turkish port operations with its investment in next-generation cranes supported by artificial intelligence. With the smart cranes to be commissioned at Isdemir Port, a new era begins in operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
Continuing its investments with the vision of becoming a global brand in port operations, OYAK Maritime and Port Operations Inc. is preparing to implement AI-supported smart cranes as part of its Port Capacity Increase Investment Program.
As part of the investment program initiated in 2022, two AI-supported next-generation cargo cranes have been delivered to Isdemir Port, and the commissioning process has begun. The installation of the smart cranes will be completed, and they will be put into service by April. AI-supported cranes, which are only used in the United States, China, and India, will be utilized in Turkey for the first time.
A first in Turkish port operations
In a statement regarding the matter, the General Manager of OYAK Maritime and Port Operations Inc. stated, 'We are equipping our Grab Ship Unloader cranes, which are undergoing modernization, with artificial intelligence integration, a first in the field of port operations in Turkey. With this digital transformation initiative, we not only maximize our operational efficiency but also minimize the risk of breakdowns through the predictive maintenance systems we have implemented, optimizing our operational costs. The most critical gain of our project will be elevating our occupational health and safety (OHS) standards to the highest level through AI-supported control mechanisms.'
