THE 6,880-TEU MSC Ines broke its mooring and goes adrift when it ran aground, blocking the navigation channel a storm at Durban, South Africa.
Port operations in Durban ground to a halt as a result of a storm, reported London's Container Management.
Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA), which operates the Port of Durban, has confirmed that all vessel movements at the facility have been suspended.
TNPA's marine service team and tugboats were called to action to help move the MSC Ines, which had broken loose from its moorings, become grounded on a sandbank and was blocking the channel.
The vessel is now afloat again, but TNPA are assisting with several other emergencies.
In a company statement TNPA said: "While we are still in the process of determining damage to port infrastructure we are relieved that no injuries have been reported."
Terminal and rail operations at the port have been suspended, and TNPA expect operations at the Port of Richards Bay, 177 km north of Durban, to also be disrupted.
