CHIEF executive of Deutsche Post DHL Group Frank appel is leaving his current post in 2023 after more than ten years in the top job, reports London's Air Cargo News.
Mr Appel scooped the position in 2008 and will continue in the role until May 4 in 2023, after the postal giant's annual general meeting.
Air Cargo News sister title, DVZ, reports that Mr Appel is aiming for the chairmanship of the supervisory board at Deutsche Telekom. His contract runs until autumn 2022 but has been extended until May 2023 in line with his planned leaving date.
Over recent years the company has seen profits and revenues soar in line with a boom in online shopping, in part fuelled by the Covid pandemic. In the third quarter DP DHL increased its revenues by 23.5 per cent year on year to EUR20 billion (US$22.6 billion) and ebit increased by 28.6 per cent to EUR1.8 billion.
Mr Appel will be replaced by Tobias Meyer, who is currently chief executive of Post & Parcel Germany and a member of the group's management board.
Mr Meyer joined the company in 2013 and has previously held a wide variety of positions including head of corporate development, chief operations officer at DHL Global Forwarding, and head of operations and IT at Post & Parcel Germany.
'In Tobias Meyer we have a recognised expert of the company taking over as DPDHL Group CEO. He is the ideal choice to continue the very successful path the company has charted. With Strategy 2025, the Management Board successfully executes along the major megatrends of digitalisation, sustainability, globalisation, and eCommerce,' said Nikolaus von Bomhard, chairman of the supervisory Board of Deutsche Post.
'We thank Frank Appel for his support to assure this seamless transition. Frank Appel's performance during his more than 13 years at the top of DPDHL Group has been outstanding. He made the company into a leading global logistics powerhouse that connects people and markets, thereby enabling global trade.'
