Speaking to SeaNews Magazine about year 2015 expectations, Murat Kıran, Chairman of Turkish Shipbuilders' association said that it has been observed in the findings of “Status of Shipyards” study carried out by Shipbuilders' Association of Turkey (GİSBİR), 249 ships were built in Turkish shipyards between August 2013 - August 2014 period.
Kıran stated that "2014 was a year of repair-maintenance, military projects and tugboat building; but however, Turkish Shipbuilding continues its growth since the 2009 financial crisis".
Murat Kıran, Chairman of the Turkish Shipbuilders' Association, cited the following:
"According to the data of Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), ship and yacht exports reached to USD 1043 Million by the end of October 2014. Compared to the whole year figure of 2013 which was 1.139 billion USD, the same figure is likely to be reached by the end of 2014- may be a little more.
Especially when taking Turkey’s 2023 targets into account, we consider that it is necessary to reach 10 to 15 percent increase in the 2015 exports in order to reach the 10 billion USD target by this date."
