Nigerian ban of 113 tankers sparks fears of new regime maritime crackdown
INTERNTANKO has sent a letter of protest to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp (NNPC) over a reported ban on 113 tankers from entering Nigerian waters and calling at its oil facilities.
The reasons for the ban on 113 tankers from Nigerian waters was not known by the time this newsletter was published, said London's Tanker Operator.
The NNPC had earlier issued a letter notifying interested parties of the ban and it was believed the ships targeted had not provided out turn figures and/or had differences on load and discharge figures.
But it could also be part of a general crackdown by new Nigerian President Buhari on corruption in Nigeria's maritime, oil and gas industries, it was said.
