The gutted "Athena" is being towed to Esbjerg where it will probably be broken up. The factory trawler had just been repaired after a previous fire when another fire broke out in May. Despite the efforts from firefighters and the two Faroese guarding vessels "Brimel" and "Tjaldrid" the fire spread throughout the ship. The fire was the third on board. The first fire was six years ago, on July 7, 200,5 when the trawler almost burned out. It happened just two months after her sister ship "Hercules" was lost after a major fire. The second time was in October 2010, when the trawler caught fire in the Atlantic, and the third time was in May 2011. On July 22 the "Athena" was taken in tow by tugs of the salvage company Svitzer and is now heading towards Esbjerg.
