ZHEJIANG, a province in the Yangtze River Delta region, recorded a year-on-year increase of 4.6 per cent in box volume in October, but a month-on-month decrease of 5.3 per cent in the aggregate throughput of its ports to 1.57 million TEU.
Collective throughput tonnage of the ports in the province fell 8.9 per cent year on year and 7.9 per cent month on month to 108 million tonnes. Seaports handled 80.9 million tonnes, remaining at the same level as in the same month in 2012, but dropped 3.9 per cent from September. River ports handled 27.28 million tonnes, falling 28 per cent year on year and 18.2 per cent month to month.
The province's foreign trade cargo grew 3.3 per cent year on year, but slipped 3.3 per cent over September to 32.67 million tonnes.
In the same month, Zhejiang's road cargo traffic grew but waterway cargo traffic fell slightly due to typhoon and rainy weather.
In October, Zhejiang recorded a road cargo traffic of 100 million tonnes up 3.8 per cent year on year and 2.1 per cent month on month. Road cargo turnover grew three per cent year on year and 7.4 per cent month to month to 14.27 billion tonnes per kilometre.
Meanwhile, provincial waterway cargo traffic shrank 4.2 per cent year on year to 64.67 million tonnes.
Provincial railway freight volume in October rose 2.27 per cent year on year but dropped 3.4 per cent month to month to 3.34 million tonnes.
