Xiamen Port, Shanghai Shipping Exchange start cross-strait box index
THE Cross-Strait Container Freight Index jointly prepared by both Xiamen Port and Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE) is expected to be launched in early next year, reports Xinhua.
Fujian offers nine container shipping services to Taiwan so far. The services are jointly operated by 10 carriers deploying 12 vessels with an annual capacity of 700,000 TEU, taking up about one-third of the total cross-strait direct service container throughput. Its annual bulk cargo throughput has reached 22 million tonnes.
According to their plan, the Cross-Strait Container Freight Index will act as a barometer for the shipping markets of the both sides with providing long-term freight rate reference for carriers and shippers.
