Woman jumps from Princess cruise ship, still missing
An American woman who jumped from a Princess cruise ship is still missing in the Pacific, about 650 miles northeast of Hawaii.
Princess Cruises confirmed that closed-circuit television shows the woman purposely jumping off the Grand Princess on the third day of a 15-day cruise from San Francisco. The ship changed course to search for her, and the Coast Guard and U.S. Navy joined in, but to no avail.
The search continued for a female passenger reported tpo have jumped overboard from the "Grand Princess" approximately 750 miles northeast of Hilo on Nov 13.
The total search area currently covers approximately 7,000 square miles. Two Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules airplane crews searched an area of approximately 3,000 square miles. A Navy P-3 Orion airplane crew from Navy Patrol Squadron FOUR based at Marine Corps Base Kaneohe also joined the search Thursday and has covered approximately 4,300 square miles. As part of the AMVER program, the commercial tug and barge "Moku Pahu" has searched approximately 127 square miles.
The "Grand Princess" also was continuing to search. Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Joint Rescue Coordination Center were notified at approximately 1 p.m. by the crew of the "Grand Princess" that an American female was overboard.
Princess Cruises spokeswoman Julie Benson says that the passenger intentionally went overboard.The Coast Guard states that the woman is 30, while Princess Cruises says she is 54.
The passenger was last seen at approximately 12 p.m.
