The 'Rose Marie' went up in flames about 65 miles east of the coast of Chatham, Mass. on Aug 23, 2018. The four crew members were rescued from a life raft by the 'Seven Seas', one of three nearby fishing vessels. A U.S. Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry air crew from Air Station Cape Cod and the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter 'Legare' also diverted to evaluate the scene. The fire eventually burned itself out. A salvage tug towed the 'Rose Marie' back to New Bedford where she arrived in the morning of Aug 25. The fire was under investigation by the Coast Guard.
