HONG KONG's Wallem Group has been named the Ship Manager of the Year by Seatrade Asia Week, as well as being recognised by the International Seafarers Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN) for quality of crew welfare provisions.
Wallem Group CEO, Simon Doughty accepted the Ship Manager Year award at the Seatrade Asia Awards gala in Singapore.
Wallem managing director, Raymond McNamara, said the award was a tribute to the hard work of Wallem's sea and shore staff.
"Every day our seafarers are working hard to deliver safe and efficient vessel operations alongside their colleagues in the technical, fleet personnel and safety teams," said Mr McNamara.
"The Ship Manager of the Year Award is acknowledgement of our excellent people and service standards, and encourages us to continue to deliver quality solutions," he said.
In another development, Wallem was also named by the International Seafarers Welfare and Assistance Network (ISWAN) as the Shipping Company of the Year for its crew welfare programme.
ISWAN is backed by the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) and the nominations for the award were made by seafarers, endorsing the company as a leading employer around the world.
Said ISWAN executive director Roger Harris: "These awards are about celebrating the work of those companies, organisations, and individuals that go the extra mile to ensure the health and well-being of seafarers."
