Viking Cruises has received Viking Sky, the third ship in the line's new ocean fleet, from Fincantieri Shipyard in Ancona, Italy. The 930-passenger ship is a sister to Viking Sea and Viking Star, which was voted Best Cabins, Best for Public Rooms and Best for First Timers in Cruise Critic's 2016 Cruiser's Choice Awards. Like its fleetmates, Viking Sky focuses on destinations; its itineraries will include few sea days as well as longer days and overnights in port. In addition, the ship features complimentary wine and beer at lunch and dinner, Wi-Fi, transfers and some specialty restaurants and excursions -- inclusions adopted from Viking's river cruise line. Design wise, Viking Sky shares a similar look and feel with Viking Sea and Viking Star. Fincantieri, which revealed details of the delivery in a statement released this morning, described it as a "Scandinavian-inspired design featuring sophisticated elegance..." The ship also will include popular venues like The Kitchen Table, Manfredi's Italian Grill and the Aquavit Terrace. Viking Sky will sail its maiden voyage February 25, then operate a series of Eastern and Western Mediterranean itineraries before being christened June 22 under Norway's Midnight Sun. The ship will continue its season in Scandinavia and the Baltic. In September, it will cross the Atlantic to sail the Americas and Caribbean.
