Ferry King Saron (499 gt, built 1989), while preparing to depart from the port of Marmaris, Turkey, to Rhodes, Greece, with 266 passengers on board, experienced a sudden overheating of the starboard main engine, on the afternoon, Oct 1. The 266 passengers on board, were disembarked and transported to Rhodes on another vessel. King Saron was permitted to sail to Rhodes, where it arrived safely. Upon arrival at Rhodes, the vessel was detained in the port, until the starboard engine was repaired and a class maintenance certificate was issued.
