Andrew Weir Shipping has received letters of compliance from
the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency which confirm that the company’s DMLC Part II, systems and procedures will comply with the requirements
of the Maritime Labour Convention. This confirmation has been received well in advance of the
application date of the convention, and before the UK Government has
passed the legislation. With all third-party managed vessels audited and found compliant, Andrew Weir is one of the first management companies
in the UK to receive such confirmations from the MCA for all vessels in
its managed fleet. Andrew Weir’s Managing Director Steve Corkhill commented “We have always prided ourselves on keeping ahead of all upcoming
legislation. Our work with UK Government departments and other demanding clients dictate that we cannot allow ourselves to be complacent with
these matters. This preparedness benefits all vessels under our
management.”Marine Superintendent Mark Causon added “Effective forward planning and project management between Andrew Weir, our
crewing partners and the MCA has resulted in the compliance for all
vessels being achieved in a timely manner. The task was not as onerous
as first envisaged due mainly to the close liaison of all parties
throughout the process.”
