One of the generators for the new American Samoan Government ferry, the "Manu'atele", wasn't operating, forcing the vessel, delivered just two months ago, to ago to stay put. The generator died during the Manu'atele's trip to Manu'a last week. While the ship had a second generator, one single generator could not carry the electrical load for the whole vessel. The Coastguard will not allow the "Manu'atele" to operate until the generator has been fixed. The "Sili" has also been down since taking on water after a valve was left open. Work was on with the Port Administration and the shipyard to try and get the "Sili" back in service while the "Manu'atele" was idle.
