The Turkish TCE EGE Container Terminal, operated by Grup Marítim TCB, near Izmir, Turkey, has purchased an empty container handler to increase the speed, safety and sustainability as compared with the reach stackers used until now.Furthermore, the company has begun to extend part of the terminal close to the dock
to improve the efficiency of the ships’ loading and unloading
operations. When the construction is finished at the end of June, the
area will be 21,000 square meters (about 226,042 square feet) larger
than it is now, reaching 391,376 square feet in size. The Terex
ECH purchased by TCEEGE is designed to lift a total of nine metric tons
and stack empty containers up to seven stories high.“Up until
now, we have been using reach stackers to handle empty containers, but
since they are machines for full containers, they were too slow and
bulky,” said Mehmet Bosna, general manager of TCEEGE, in a written
statement. “On the other hand, the ECH was specifically designed to
improve the efficiency of the transport management of empty containers
in the terminal in a further step towards the operational excellence
being pursued by Grup TCB.
