Turkish freighter with flooded engine room off Taiwan
On March 22 2011 bulk carrier Costis required assistance 63 nm off Taiwan coast, vessel disabled, with flooded engine room. Taiwanese rescue helicopters hoisted 13 out of 17 crew, Master, Chief engineer and 2 other crew remained on board hoping to save the vessel. All crew unharmed. Costis IMO 8316314, dwt 29112, built 1984, flag Panama, manager/owner Damla Denizcilik Turkey.
Update 23/03: Damla Denizcilik said to turkish online maritime portal DenizHaber.Com that all remaining crew onboard Costis evacuated safely and now there is nobody onboard Costis, which has not been sunk yet. There is a possibility that the ship can be salvaged.
