General cargo ship MERCY broke off her moorings at Bizerte, Tunis, drifted and allided with Bizerte drawbridge on Bizerte Channel, hitting its’ lifting part at around 2200 LT Aug 31.After collision with bridge and contacting neighbouring berth, vessel was taken under control and berthed. MERCY was in ballast about to set sail, bound for Italy.She was detained for inspection and investigation. Bridge reportedly didn’t suffer damages and remains open for traffic.No information on vessel’s damages. As of 0400 UTC Sep 2, MERCY was still docked at Bizerte. Vessel was renamed MERCY in June this year.
