Turkey's ARKAS orders 4 container vessels of 2500 TEU
The two 2,500teu vessels, scheduled for delivery in 2017, are options linked to an original order placed in early April 2014 by ARKAS.
Delivery of the two vessels that form the original order is planned for December 2016 and March 2017, respectively.
No costs have been disclosed but depending on the vessel specification sources indicate an estimated price range of between $27m and $30m for each ship.
Meanwhile, brokers conveyed that the over-ordering tendency of around 2,500 teu feeder containership, which started in late 2012, has been gradually disappearing.
The newbuildings appear to be replacements for two 2,800-teu ships that Arkas ordered in October 2011 at STX Dalian Shipbuilding for delivery in 2013. The ships are understood to have been cancelled due to the yard’s financial difficulties.
Zhejiang Ouhua Shipbuilding confirms orders
"According to the news published by the shipyard, the followings were noted:
As is known, the project marks a new vessel type undertaken by Ouhua following small container vessels like 1200TEU and 1700TEU, which wins the favor of the ship owner right upon launching on market.
The effective orders by now include 2+2 vessels for Arkas (Turkey) and 2+4 vessels for SPELBY (Marshall Islands), attesting to Ouhua's growing standing in design and production of small container vessels as well as the recognition and trust from the market.
They not only add to the diversity of Ouhua's products but also help Ouhua to broaden the market and enhance its market share."
