Authorities investigating reports of a large ship drifting off the coast of Cu Lao Cham island, located off the coast of Da Nang on the Vietnamese coast, found that the ship was stuck against the coastline.

Reporting that boarding the ship was impossible due to its location and strong waves, Vietnamese Border Guards were able to identify the ship as the 132 meters (433 ft) long product tanker King Rich, registered in Sierra Leone. The 13,925 dwt ship is reported to be in good condition, except for damage to the bow during the grounding.

Border management said, "There is currently no crew on board the King Rich, and we have not yet been able to determine the amount of cargo and fuel remaining on the ship. Authorities are actively implementing surveillance and protection measures to restrict public access to the ship." Quang Nam Provincial Guard Command reported.

King Rich's previously reported location was near the Philippine island of Luzon, about 1,600 miles from Vietnam, on November 18, about 80 nautical miles from Badoc Island in the Philippines.

The 13 Indonesian and three Chinese crew members on the King Rich abandoned ship on November 18, reporting that the ship's propeller shaft had broken and was taking on water.
