The 'T. Caroline' with 19 Turkish crew members on board suffered water ingress in the engine room on July 14, 2018, in the Aegean Sea enroute from the Aliağa district to Mersin. at noon The ship which was three miles away from the coast of Kuşadas suffered a blackout and was in danger of sinking. The Kusadasi and Aliağa Harbor port captaincies responded. The ship was towed towards the Kusadais anchorage area by the tugs 'T. Damla 3' (IMO: 9438119) and 'T. Damla 4' (IMO: 9438690) which remained at the tanker’s side. The Aydin Metropolitan Municipality Maritime Department and the Department of Fire Department provided additional submersible pumps. The situation could be brought under control in the run of the day, and the response was continued on July 16.
