On Oct 5, 2017, at 9.30 a.m. the "Brightoil Lucky" was in collision with a Chinese 290-ton fishing vessel in the Japan Sea, about 200 miles north of the Oki islands in the Shimane Prefecture. The fishing vessel sank, and only four of its 16 crew members were rescued to date, 12 more were missing. The Japanese Coastguard launched an SAR operation and sent three patrol boats to the accident site. The tanker was en route from Longkou to the Kozmino oil terminal in the Primorye Region.
