The 'Eko 2' carrying an unknown quantity of oil products has run aground off the coast of Psara, an islet northwest of Chios in the eastern Aegean Sea on Jan 16, 2018. The tanker with a crew of 17 was en route from Lesvos to Chios when it hit rocks or shallows off Psara. Coastguard authorities are monitoring the situation in case of a leak, while a tug was on the way to help refloat the tanker. There have been no reports of injuries. The tanker "EKO 2", which had been approached to supply the island with fuel, was detached from the shallows in the harbor of Psara. The southern Greeks combined with their first visit to Psara, in order to supply the only service station for liquid fuels, put the ship in a sandy area about 30 meters from the Spitalia area of Psara. As the Angeliki Marinos station manager told us, they were waiting for a trailer called by the company from Chios and hoped to be able to deliver the cargo so that the inhabitants of Psara did not run out of fuel. Besides, the Municipality of Psara told us that luckily there has been no marine pollution and that 17 crew members are well in their health. At the moment, the Mayor Kostas Vratsanos is on the spot.To add that in the past the delivery of a cargo has made the ship "EKO 1" of the company, while the other times Psara are supplied with barrels on special routes that are carried out.
