CARGO handler Swissport has acquired rival Apron along with its 16,000 square metre air cargo warehouse to expand its presence at Stuttgart airport and in the wider German market.
The deal means Swissport will be the largest handler at the airport and will led to a 20 per cent increase in German cargo revenues, reported London's Air Cargo News.
'The expansion of our cargo services to Stuttgart underlines our growth ambitions in the air cargo segment,' said Swissport International senior vice president Willy Ruf.
'With the addition of Stuttgart to our global network, our clients will now be able to rely on our high quality cargo services at 11 airports across Germany. Thanks to the direct tarmac access of the Stuttgart cargo facility, cargo shipments can be handled with short transit times.'
Aside from cargo handling, the company will also extend to Stuttgart airport its security services and training.
Some 27,000 tonnes of air freight, including specialised car cargo shipments by the local car manufacturing industry, were handled in Stuttgart in 2017.
