SINGAPORE's global terminal operator, PSA International, has signed an education MoU valued at more than US$2 million with the country's Institute of Technical Education (ITE) to build awareness of port operations and technology.
The higher education institute, established in 1992, will work closely with PSA to develop skilled talent, said PSA International regional chief executive for Southeast Asia Tan Puay Hin.
"We are applying more automation and intelligent technologies to transform our capabilities and enhance productivity," he said, according to London's Lloyd's List.
The MOU will support internship opportunities towards gaining the Higher National ITE Certificate by studying shipping operations/management and logistics for international trade, with PSA-ITE scholarships available to those wishing to pursue a career at PSA.
ITE director and CEO Bruce Ph said the collaboration will help to attract and inspire students to purse careers in port operations, logistics or shipping operations. @FAXTEXT = "It will provide our students with real workplace learning through internships; networking opportunities and professional guidance; and scholarships," he added, allowing engineering students access to the latest port equipment and automation technologies being rolled out at PSA container terminals.
PSA will also fund a series of projects at various ITE campuses and sponsor book prizes awarded to students that top selected modules in these fields.
